CREATIVE INTERVENTIONIST CONVENING
CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA // APRIL 13-15, 2018

CELEBRATING CULTURE IN OUR NEIGHBORHOODS
The Creative Interventionist Convening brings together creators and doers from around the country to share what they are discovering in their communities, to learn from each other, to amplify their work, and to create impactful projects. The Convening will take place in Charlotte, North Carolina, a rapidly expanding city that has one of the lowest socioeconomic mobility stats in the country. Charlotte is discovering new ways to honor and preserve the stories of its neighborhoods while embracing this new growth.

The Convening will set the stage nationally for where this work is currently, actively focus on neighborhood level projects and impact, and develop tools to insert art and culture at the center of neighborhood development. We will celebrate Charlotte’s neighborhoods and collaborate with local residents to discover ways to develop Charlotte authentically and compassionately. Participants at the Convening will include League Fellows from around the country, artists, creators, makers and partners of the League of Creative Interventionists.

Our inner neighborhoods are experiencing rapid growth and transition. Now, is the time to recognize and celebrate the history and culture of neighborhoods near center city. It is also time to engage residents in envisioning their neighborhoods future. The League of Creative Interventionists Fellows are well trained in developing innovative programs that inform and engage residents in celebrating history and imagining the future. This is what we will be setting the stage to do this year at the convening. Join us.
— Charles Thomas, Program Director, Knight Foundation (Charlotte)
Being a fellow is about building community as a way to highlight a common thread we all share: the need for a sense of belonging. During a time in which our city is experiencing tremendous growth and sprawl, neighborhood residents want to have their voices heard and desire to be included. The convening creates a space for change agents to explore ways to bring people together to advocate and support each other in addressing the issues that impact the well-being of us all.
— Quintel Gwinn, 2018 Creative Interventionist Fellow, Charlotte
